"Karibu" — welcome. From the moment I arrived in Nairobi, that single word set the tone for everything that followed.
During my university years, I had the privilege of meeting people from all over the world. Among the many friendships I formed, I found myself becoming especially close to my East African friends from Kenya and Tanzania. These friendships grew into something much deeper — they became family.
Some of the most special people I met during that chapter of my life were my best friends Annie and Eunice, who are from Kenya. Over the years, I always carried the desire to visit them, experience their home, and create memories together.
In December 2025, I finally decided it was time to stop dreaming and start doing. I booked my flight, packed my bags, and began my journey to Nairobi, Kenya.
My adventure started from Port Moresby to Guangzhou, Guangzhou to Changsha, and then an incredible 11-hour direct flight to the beautiful capital city of Nairobi. Flying over the magnificent African continent was an experience I will never forget. Looking down from the window and seeing the vast beauty of Africa felt incredibly special it was a moment of gratitude and excitement knowing I was finally there.
Arriving in Nairobi was such a smooth and welcoming experience. The staff on the ground were incredibly friendly, and after making my way through the arrival terminal, there she was, my best friend Annie waiting for me.
Seeing a familiar face in a new country made the moment even more special.
I spent an unforgettable week exploring Nairobi, experiencing the local culture, tasting delicious Kenyan cuisine, visiting incredible places, and of course doing a little bit of hotel hopping (because I couldn’t resist!).
One of the highlights of my stay was experiencing the amazing hospitality at Hotel Serena Nairobi. The service, atmosphere, and attention to detail truly gave me a taste of world-class hospitality.
As someone who has always been passionate about beauty and entrepreneurship, I also took the opportunity to visit beauty businesses and explore possible business opportunities in Kenya. It was inspiring to see the creativity, talent, and growth within the beauty industry there, and it opened my mind to new possibilities.
But without a doubt, one of the most unforgettable moments of my trip was experiencing Kenya’s incredible wildlife. Seeing majestic animals such as rhinos, leopards, lions, and ostriches in their natural environment was truly breathtaking.
And of course, no safari experience would be complete without a little adventure — we even had a group of cheeky baboons chase after us because they wanted our food bags! It was hilarious, unexpected, and definitely a memory I will never forget.
Looking back, my trip to Nairobi was more than just a holiday. It was a celebration of friendship, culture, connection, and the beautiful relationships that life gives us along the way.
Kenya welcomed me with open arms, and I am so grateful for the memories created, the experiences shared, and the friendships that continue to feel like family.
I know this won’t be my last visit. Nairobi, I will definitely be back and next time, I’ll be adding even more countries to my wanderlust list.
Until next time, Kenya. ❤️
